The two main announcements today are all to push sony hardware. That is the only reason for this. Now, the question is. Is it enough to pursuade the buying public to buy a sony tv, a vaio or a tablet. THAT is what this is about. This is the end game of what sony has been trying to do for the last 5 years. if they succeed and people start buying sony hardware to get to this content then sony is back if they fail... they are fucked. Its really that simple. |
Isnt it the opposite. Yes of course they *want* people to buy the hardware, but its all about services. Selling services (such as music/films and games) content is better if more devices can access it. They can make lots of cash from both hardware and those using non sony devices. It's a win win *if* they can get people to stop using other services such as netflix/lovefilm etc and subscribe (and this has the added benefit of games).
I can see what they are doing really, they are hoping the gaming side will probably help launch it and get a user base which will get others acros.. though I wouldnt have called it playstation now to be fair. Sony Now would have been better.
Not that I am convinced that PS3 games will work that well over Gaikai.
