Are you forgetting that they are also a software company? and they also need to make money on the software? By going Wii U only, a franchise that earned more than 10 million units sold last gen would sell considerably lower. By tapping into the huge 3ds user base you have a lot more sales and so, more profit. And I dont think the 3ds version will hinder the Wii U version. MAny wil get the console version to have the full experience and to have friends come over. Where as the 3ds version is probably going to be more online oriented. Also, many people such as me will get both for 3ds and wii u so i can have smash bros EVERYWHERE. We will have to wait and see but i think that this was a good business decision.
