The 8th gen can be explained easily:

Using PC architecture, PS4 became part of Glorious Master Race = Instant WIN.
XBOne could have too, but it ruined all adding expensive kiddy appendage and becoming Ninty rip-off = D0M3.
Wii U is Ninty = D0M3 by definition.
