does it really matter whats causing it? Nintendo have acknowledged the problem - offered a solution with no cost and full postage and put in an easy to use full informed process to remove the stress of it all.
Even if they came out and said "we screwed up with using inferior parts in the launch models - we apologise" would you care any less?
This is perhaps why SSBB didn't get released in December as they foreseen this and knew they couldn't offer such a quick turnaround with the holiday sales, whatever the reason is it's obvious this way of reading the disks is gonna be used more in the future and it's good that they are taking steps now to ensure the problem is handled.
I was usnsure about getting SSBB as fighting games have never appealled to me personally but now i'm going to just to ensure my wii is working correctly as it is a launch model.
