It's hurting by making the console much more expensive than it needs to be. MS needs to have a lower end SKU, and I think they will.
Kinect is an optional accessory that somebody can buy separately if they are interested in it. You only think it's good for navigation because of how cluttered the XB1 UI is. On the PS4 you can get everywhere with just a few button presses. Your most used games & apps are kept near, and extra functions are just push up or push down on the d-pad. Faster and less error prone than "Err... do this. Xbox do this. XBOX, do this. XBOX.... DOOO THIIIISSSS.".
Don't bet on it being the best selling xbox after just 5 or 6 weeks of sales. The XB1 has had far more supply at launch than XB360. 360 was very hard to get hold of for a lot longer. It's too early to tell if XB1 will actually be ahead 5 or 6 months down the road. With a $499 price compared to the 360 having $399 and $299 versions at launch is a big difference to most people. You'll see... money doesn't grow on trees in this economy.
