Xb1 is not doomed and will never be doomed. It will just sell less than (or equal to) half of PS4 globally. Considering that PS4 will sell much more than PS3, it is by no means a failure.
It may be less or more successful than X360 in comparison because
a) PS4 will still a lot more share from Microsoft this time (NEGATIVE)
b) WiiU will not have anywhere near the success of Wii, some of which will be captured by XB1 (POSITIVE)
* XB1 is not a failure but may be a disappointment for MS depending on what they were intending to achieve.
* They will lose lots of market share against PS4 in their strongholds but the downfall of Nintendo will minimize such losses.
* They will not be successful in their Kinect and gimmicky implementations. They just are too Anglo-Centric and the rest of the world will never accept them wholeheartedly. However, MS is good at having some deep influences with long legs. They got the world used to the Metro & Win8 monstrosity.
