Since the story of Joel and Ellie is done, I don't see the need to continue the series. It wouldn't make sense, sort of like writing a sequel to Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Some games, novels, or films are simply great as standalone works, and I personally think that The Last of Us is one of them.

Actually...it was revealed in the story that this battle is about more than just Joe and Ellie.There are more immune people than just Ellie in the world. Anyone can die and anything can happen in a situation such as that.
