Three week-old Puzzle & Dragons beating out FFX /X-2 on PS Vita? Seems like it should have placed higher than that.
Not surprised at Zelda 3DS placing second. Extremely strong 3DS momentum combined with the first original Zelda for 3DS, being top-down instead of third-person, I definitely expected it would do quite well over there. Surprised other people here didn't think so. Japan loves "2D" Zelda, and does not like 3D Zelda. Despite the fact that ALBW is technically "3D", it plays like a 2D game, so it will enjoy nice sales in Japan for that reason. Kirby's first 3DS game coming on the 11th will continue 3DS beast mode for the foreseeable future. Japan loves Kirby.
Nintendo clearly is in great shape in Japan, thanks to 3DS continually having strong software launches steadily throughout the year. If only they could nail down how to emulate that in NA and Europe. Pokemon helped, but it's not enough. Japan shouldn't have a larger install base of Nintendo handhelds than NA.
