Not sure if this suggestion is blasphemy, but I feel that Nintendo would also need to get rid of the animals as well and more towards more traditional sci fi characters. Whether they turn them into humans or aliens that resemble the creatures they are named from, I do think that the animal aspect would limit the seriousness of the game.

I don't know about "blasphemy", but it's certainly not a sound suggestion. That would be about as pointless as making Mario "less cartoony" to somehow "make it appeal more to core (meaning guys who like boobs and blood and shooting stuff) gamers". Or for that matter, making Master Chief a furry cartoon animal character. The Star Fox universe is populated by anthropomorphic animal characters. That's what they are. Changing them would not only be a betrayal of the series, it would also bomb harder than the "serious, realisitc" Bomberman abortion that Hudson Soft tried on Xbox years ago.

People like Star Fox for what it is. If they made a game JUST like SF64 (with all new levels and more content of course), with gorgeous HD graphics and swarms of enemies and things happening on screen? People would swoon. It would be a massively big deal, and the hype for it would likely equal some pretty solid sales.
