VG247 obviously made an error. "Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling piece of hardware in the US with over 6.47 million units sold in 2013 – 30% increase year-over-year." That would be an average of ~809k per month in the US. It didn't even hit that in November. You can find other articles citing the same number to software.
