Current.... Both the Wii U and X1 are current...

The term "current" is a relative thing. Is the consoles "current" with the history of all humanity? Absolutely, since humanity started many millions of years ago... Are they "current" to industrialization? Absolutely, as industrialization started a few hundred years ago. Are they "current" to computing? Absolutely, microprocessor computing started over 50 years ago, so using tech that is 1-3 years old is still current.

Using PS4 specs as "current" is really saying "only the highest spec console is current". I applaud Sony for using the higher end of hardware to build their console, but using that as the measurement for "current" simply is ridiculous.

As for "next" as in "nextgen" The Wii U and X1 are clearly the "nextgen" consoles from their manufacturers as there is no forward compatibility (meaning stuff on Wii U and X1 does not run on either the Wii or X1 without recompiling a separate version).  Therefore the consoles are nextgen from their manufacturers.

is it available today???? then it is current... not next....

latest is current.....

The PS4 is readily available to purchase as well...  so it is current only then too...  And I can make a PC equalling the PS4 hardware...

By that logic, nothing available to the consumer is "next", because in the labs of AMD, Intel, nVidia, etc, there are many processors we haven't seen hit the market yet which would truely be nextgen...  If anything available is "current" and not "next" then there is no consumer good can be considered "next".
