I have multiple consoles including wii u. I'm not going to pay full whack for a version of a game that is weaker on wii u than ps3 or 360. We can pretend these games are lazy ports but considering we are getting the same results from multiple publishers and developers it is pretty obvious the wii u hardware is 360/PS3 level at best. To be honest I'm sick to death with the lazy port bullshit that is spouted by fanboys. They were stating it at the beginning and now a year on it's still happening. The wii u has always been very easy to develop for but unfortunately that doesn't help if the underlying hardware is weak.
I bought a wii u for Nintendo exclusives and other exclusives. Even at the beginning I only expected the wii u to marginally outperform 360 and PS3 and since then I've realised in many ways that was optimistic. It's just not that powerful and constantly repeating 'lazy port' will never change that. FFS it has a 3 core 32bit cpu running at 1.25ghz designed in the last century, even paired with a more modern GPU architecture than 360 or PS3 it is going to struggle. Wii u owners need to understand that in some ways the PS3 and 360 are more powerful and to pretend otherwise is just fanboy nonsense.
We haven't seen a single game yet that shows improved gpu or cpu power in the wii u. Need for speed most wanted has some improved textures no doubt thanks to higher memory capacity. However the wii u version has less online players and inferior sound support.
I'm not going to buy a wii u version of a game when the 360 version will probably cost less and play better.
If you bought a wii u to replace your wii and play mainly casual games or games aimed at a young audience you don't need COD, Assassin's Creed, Watchdogs etc.
If you are a avid gamer who has multiple consoles your not going to want a port of a major game running on weak hardware when you can play a better version on a different console often for less money.
All the wii u versions of multiformat games I have are inferior to 360/PS3 versions but apart from Sonic Transformed I bought them from the bargain bin. Sonic Transformed is near standard definition on wii u. It is only 1024x576, it's a higher res on 360 and PS3. Still a fantastic game worth every penny.
The reality is that it makes perfect sense that wii u console sales are low because it's only really worth buying if you love Nintendo games and multiformat game sales are low because the games perform poorly on wii u because of weak hardware not lazy ports. There is absolutely nothing surprising about the current situation.
It makes perfect sense for Activision to stop making COD games on wii u but not stop producing games aimed at a younger audience or casual games.
