Combine the two circumstances.  Not exactly the target audience and certainly poorly handled development/marketing on Nintendo consoles.

I've played Black Ops 2 on the Wii U. The game was fine. Its the best looking version of the game. Most gamers who play third party core titles moved from Nintendo fifteen years ago. Its Nintendos job to get them to come back. They've failed at that. Most of the primary titles purchased for the Wii U are first party. Nintendo has had strong sales for three straight consoles solidly on first party. Being that the Wii is no longer around Just Dance is going to drop in sales.

I think you missed the part that began with how they poorly handled development and marketing of the series on Nintendo consoles since the beginning.  Meaning that they failed to generate a fan base so by the time they did manage to develop a quality version, any hope of doing well was long gone.

And don't tell me that Nintendo failed to generate a fan base for CoD fans before CoD even became a series because I already acknowledged the target audience was mismatched and you can't fail to establish a player base for a product that doesn't even yet exist.

Nintendo fans only care about mario and zelda. If its not mario or colorful they wont buy it simple as that.

You haven't looked at the best selling DS and Wii titles, have you?
