I swear The lone ranger is cursed. First my glasses break the day I get it, now the power failed while I was watching it due to the largest ice storm in years hitting Ontario.
The movie was about to enter the final act when the lights went out, came back 5 sec after causing my projector to make a horrible noise, then the power started turning on and off rapidly so I had to scramble to unplug the thing to avoid any further damage. A hot shut off is not good for projectors. Now I have to wait until the ice goes away before testing if it will still work. After the power being out most of the night it's still turning off randomly during the day.
Anyway the movie was enjoyable so far. It doesn't come close to true grit but I'm still curious to see what they make of the ending. Gore Verbinsky's cinematography style is not really my favorite. He makes the image look as if it has a lot of crushed blacks, although since it's in the original they call it deep, inky blacks. The result is the same however, large areas on screen without detail. It's fine in dark scenes, but I find it distracting during daylight scenes, half blacked out figures walking around is just poor lighting if you ask me.
Now I've got to cut off some ice covered tree limbs hanging against the house before the wind picks up tonight.
