Personally, I think the arguments have gone down the wrong path. Instead of argueing for same sex couples to be allowed to marry, I think the argument should have been why is the government in charge of anybody being allowed to marry? The personal commitment of two people to each other should be nobodys business but their own. Why do we let the government charge us for a license that says who we are commited to?

The government is involved because there are many legal ramifications to getting married.

I understand that, but that doesnt mean that it is justified. I mean, most of these rights and priveledges were created by the government to justify their own intrusion. Spousal benfits can be set up on a individual basis, there is no reason the government needs to be involved. They are involved now because marriage is literally written into the tax code. My point is that is crap and should be done away with.
however, I realize that isnt going to happen anytime soon, so Legalizing same sex marriage is better than nothing....
