Why do Americans praise fat people that lose weight?

I saw some weight loss show. I don't think it was Biggest Loser.  It was similar but it just had a regular guy.  Do you think these people are being exploited a little?

If by exploited you mean they can win 250K for losing weight not mention they get the top trainers in the world, all free equipment and food and they're basically saving there lives since some of them are at the brink of heart attacks and other diseases.

Some shows are a little worst and it may seem like they're being exploited but hey whatever they can do to lose weight thats fine by me, obviously they don't want to live disabled there whole life.
