Their track record on getting across their intended message is poor. See also "Wii U isn't a Wii expansion".

That doesn't mean that Nintendo is going to actively pursue marketing this as the next game in the lineage of the franchise proper.  I don't see potential "Zelda U" buyers mistaking this title for the real thing.
