I would argue the majority of gaming fans are blissfully unaware of sales and shipment figures and just enjoy their games.

Actually, according to the last year, the majority of gaming fans are blissfully unaware that the Wii U even exists.

I wouldn't call those people serious gaming fans.

So it's the "gamers" who are at fault and not Nintendo's marketing for the last year?  Got it!   It's that exact way of thinking that's got Nintendo in the shape they are in with the Wii U.
