all microsoft would need to do is build in a tv tuner and then you lease/rent a cable card from your tv provider and bam you have a fully functional cable/gaming/streaming/smart box.

or microsft can just build special consoles with tv tuners built with coaxial inputs and providers could rent these special devices out at a premium price.

But they dont have this now. How long would this functionality take and how much would it add to the $500 cost which is already fairly high? Also this would suggest functionality a while from now rather  than at this moment which dilutes the x1's strong point and potential sales from this move.
