If the 3rd parties didn't abandon the DS/3DS, why would they abandon the WiiU? Even if the usual 3rd party games don't appear on the U, it doesn't really matter, as those didn't appear on the DS line anyways. 20-30 million is cube numbers. Without the games on the HD twins, Nintendo was able to sell more than 150m DS' and countless software, what makes it so different for the U? That's why I don't see value in the numbers you bring to the table. |
the DS is a portable and the WIi U is a home console, there is overlap but they are not really the same market. Thats the big difference. DS is the PS2 of the portable gaming market. As for 3rd parties, well for one not as much as them even mess with the DS and 3ds as you might think at least not the western ones which ironically they mostly dev for home consoles and PC machines. Even at the height of DS popularity. Plus i imagine its much cheaper to make a game for DS/3ds than it is a home console. Especially a home console that has a crap install base compared to much bigger ones of the portables, so they would absolutely abandon Wii U quicker than they would 3ds. games that are popular on home consoles arent usually popular on portables, FPS comes to mind so people arent expecting those on portables anyway, but when they dont appear on a actual home console you have a problem as we can see.
I just dont think the DS and Wii U is a good comparison. 3rd parties have abandoned it, EA straight up said they are not doing anything for WIi U. No matter what you feel about them, they are one of the big ones. Acti will keep putting ports on the system. Ubi seems to be the only one that cares. I dont think SE has anything in the pipe for WIi U, Capcom either. Did you see last E3? out of all the new game announcements for next year besides Watchdogs i dont think any of them are hitting WIi U. Hell there missing alot of PS360
