It doesn't even sound like minigames, but more like some of the stuff that Nintendo has done on official websites for some of their games. Basically an advertisement you can interact with a little bit.

Yeah, I mean really gimmicky stuff. Like waggling a sticker-type character on a really poorly designed canvas, not a true mini-game something even lamer but that serves a marketing purpose.

By now, it seems that they just started to use tools for advertsiment (try Mario.ca on your smartphone). But who knows what are they going to do in the future?

This makes me remember when Square Enix announced a shift in their investiments after the losses with Hitman3, Watch Dogs and Tomb Raider, where they decided to concentrate efforts on the mobile market instead of consoles.
