They killed it because shifted to Wii U development after Skyward Sword and Mario Party 9. There was not a good reason to continue to support it because they were going to have a next-gen console. Some people say that the Wii ruined Nintendo, but that really isn't true. They just went back to the level they were in during the N64 and GameCube.
