You tend to have to do some new things when you're in the tight spot Nintendo is in. Besides it could still be "their" OS in most ways that they want it to be, Android is completely customizable. And its free to license too, which is a price I think Nintendo would find most agreeable. Designing a new OS from scratch would cost Nintendo a good deal of money. The key to having Android is that it would give Nintendo access to a bazillion Android apps, so they wouldn't have to do a lot of work in making a feature rich phone (ie: have to go negotiate deals for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, ESPN, CNN, etc. etc. etc. apps). So that saves a lot of headaches and leaves Nintendo to focus on the game-centric aspects of the phone. |
Oh I agree it would be a great idea, that doesn't mean Nintendo would they. As we've seen they've made some awful mistakes recently.
I think their next batch of systems will be a home console with the 4DS or w/e as the controller, that is the idea floating around online. Also, going Android, do you think Nintendo would allow their games on other Android phones???
I just can't see them going toe to toe with Samsung, Sony ect in terms of classy decent phones. Not to degrade the Videogame industry, but phones is like playing with the big boys ...
