You are on to something, but a business would have to be incredibly smart and foresighted to invest heavily into R&D of a gamepad which requires a built-in design and API only to offer it as a peripheral. It's the smarter move but after investing all that money, it clearly isn't the most obvious one. Also, the second challenge to this idea is that the PS3 had move so just upgrading the Wii to HD graphics and pushing motion+ was a very risky idea. Ultimately, Apple made the iPad and iPhone madly popular, so in the en the fundamental solution to all this is games and marketing. Making the tablet a peripheral would have helped, but the root problem is god-aweful marketing, pricing and the library is weak compared to the Wii. |
You and Purple have ninja'd me HARD lol
but now that i think about it, i guess they made the Gamepad partly because of how the Ipad was doing and i dont blame Nintendo for that but it still should've been a peripheral instead of the main controller.
I most likely would've happily bought the Gamepad seperately to play Nintendoland. Now that the Gamepad is the main controller, i kinda have a grudge against it and will IMMEDIATELY go out of my way to get a Wii Mote along with a Pro Controller(solely for Smash Bros).
At this point, i'm sure everybody at Nintendo knows that the Gamepad isn't really bringing anything to the table as the main controller. They have to make sacrifices. They may get criticised but it is what it is. Nintendo fans have heard it all before.
The Move was never going to get that far because Sony is not going to keep it in mind for all their games. Nintendo would've been fine. The only bad thing you would here is "oh i thought Nintendo was supposed to be innovative? They're using the same controller" or "Nintendo still doesn't have the main 3rd parties just like last gen", "Yet again, the Nintendo is getting a bunch of shovelware just like the Wii" and all that other stuff. I would rather take success and hearing those things being said rather than having a "different and innovative" Wii U that is struggling on almost all fronts
I also believe that the exclusion of the Gamepad would've allowed for a more flexible price on both sides (cheaper for consumers and an easily profitable system for Nintendo). Their would be more games currently in it's library along with a lot more on the horizon. I would take shovelware with gems over a very limited library anyday.
and i'm actually glad that they didn't advertise the Wii U that much at this point. I don't want them to advertise the Wii U until they bring the damn Wii Mote back. There are still aot of people who are shockingly unaware of the Wii U
