| d21lewis said: Personally, I loved the Wii. It had its place on my entertainment center next to the 360 and PS3. The problem is, for many of the people I've met, they got tired of the Wii waaaaay before the gen ended. I was talking to a guy at work about the new consoles and the Wii U. He said, "Yeah, my (I don't remember which relative) got one of those Wii's. We probably played with that thing for a day." It was a very popular system but a lot of people that bought it felt burned. They were kinda tricked into it. Pretty much every girl I dated this year had a Wii and some exercise games gathering dust on the shelves. One of my co-workers bought a Wii for his fat kids because "It's better than just sitting there with a controller in their hands" and his kids are still fat. The Wii was the greatest trick the devil ever pulled. I'm serious. Yeah, it had great games and a lot of those games were the most successful of the entire gen. Still doesn't change the fact that people got screwed. I can admit this. It was time to pay the devil his due. So, like the DS, the Wii name was mega popular. Unlike the DS, the Wii failed to deliver for a lot of people. So, was Nintendo supposed to distance itself from the Wii name--their best selling home console, ever? Nope. Like the 3DS continued the DS name and dropped the "Gameboy", the Wii U tried to build off of the Wii name. The Wii name is kinda shit right now. Same goes for Xbox One and Kinect. Kinect was the fastest selling electronic item ever or some shit like that. I loved Kinect. I still play it. A lot of people got burned with Microsoft's promises for Kinect 1.0. They aren't especially excited about a Kinect 2.0, even if it does deliver this time. The sins of the father are payed for by the child. |
I've noticed this aswell
I was contemplating how Nintendo could keep the momentum from dieing as quickly while still keeping a similar mold to the original Wii.
and although it didn't keep everybodies attention, there were still a bus load of people who enjoyed it the full way through.
I never really expected the Wii U to match the success of the Wii but i was expecting it to just be similar.
also, I just went back and looked at New Super Mario Bros Wii U sales compared to New Super Mario Bros Wii and i almost passed out when i looked at the 1st 10 weeks of NSMBW lol. I never really noticed how crazy that bad boy sold. I can't remember if it was bundled with every console or not though. That game sold like that because it had a platform to thrive on.
