Yea personally I think they should lay off the 3D and 2D mario games for a little while.   They have cranked out 4 of each in 6 years and I think its to the point where there is comsumer fatigue.  I get why they have done it,  Gamecube was the least Mario focused console ever and it bombed, while Wii and DS were heavy Mario and sold like crazy, but they need to make people hungry for it again.  People are begging for Mario Kart and Smash Bros because it has been so long.  Same went for GTA V when it came out. 

Mario kart is the only franchise that nintendo gives a damn in making it good aside from 3D mario. Nintendo can make people hungry again for mario if they start by cutting the bullshit from 2D mario. I'm sick and tired of nintendo treating it like crap. Have they no shame in rehashing 2D marios but give 3D marios the better treatment. GTA is a good franchise because rockstar truly does care about making it into a good game. It was only until GTA 3 that the franchise got big and started growing the gaming audience.

Nintendo is the same way for the most part.  There is a reason we all have to wait for Zelda/Kart/Smash for so long, yet its always worth it when they come out.  This is why I stick with Nintendo because there are very few companies now that understand this concept.  Bethesda,Nintendo,2K,Naughty Dog,Rockstar.  Thats about it, everyone else is just about making $$$ fast, sometimes companies like EA put something truely great out, but for the most part they are trash. (cough..Battlefield 4).
