Kids like Handhelds with cartoon visuals but adults prefer Home consoles with matured content. And Home console is dominated by Sony and microsoft with their matured content but Nintendo is trying with kid like games wtih Wii U. Nintendo has no direct competition in Handhels as they are going unique way with their games and its visuals.

Or people just want to play games, and so when it comes to Nintendo games, they're taking to the cheapest route to be able to play those games a.k.a. 3DS.
