Total War: Rome 2 – Caesar in Gaul releases next week

Total War: Rome 2 content drops next week and it’s called Caesar in Gaul. The downloadable campaign pack brings with it the battle of Alesia, which artfully recreates the engagement in which Caesar finally conquered Gaul. This made the man famous, and infamous, and thus enabling his rise to dictator. In the game, though, players will battle at the hilltop fort of Alesia as it’s under siege, and will have to weather attacks on two fronts: from Vercingetorix’ forces within the fort itself, and from a huge Gallic relief army. There’s more on the wikipage. The content will drop on December 17 and is 10% off when you pre-order on Steam.

Evil Geniuses' League of Legends team splits, EG to North America, Alliance forms in EU

Comments1

One of the oldest rosters in professional League of Legends, the five-man Evil Geniuses squad of Snoopeh, Froggen, Krepo, Wickd, and Yellowpete, has finally broken up amidst some odd rebranding and an apparent restructuring of the way the Evil Geniuses business works.

The entire story is a little hard to parse, but the bottom line is that Evil Geniuses' European squad has effectively ceased to to exist. Instead, three of its members are heading to LCS North America to compete as the Evil Geniuses team while two remain in Europe under the EG-affiliated moniker, Alliance.

America gets randomized in Europa Universalis IV: Conquest of Paradise on January 14

Comment

If I was in the habit of writing flowery poems, I'd write most of them about Europa Universalis IV. Its vast scope and depth coupled with a plethora of tools to craft all manner of alternate history narratives made it my favourite strategy romp this year and one of the best grand strategy titles I've had the good fortune to play. So obviously I'm rather looking forward to January 14, when Europa Universalis IV's first expansion, Conquest of Paradise, drops.

Conquest of Paradise creates a randomised American continent, with new geography and a slew of new tribes to play with or fight against while expanding the native experience with brand spanking new abilities like migrating from provinces, creating confederations of tribes and working through a new advancement track, making progress hopefully less dreary.

Because it's there - Unity of Command: Black Turn review

Comment

The German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 is the wargamer’s Mount Everest. The fate of the USSR was on the line in a way it never was before or after. The Germans had the forces and logistical support to take the all three major capitals, Leningrad / St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kiev. They had an adversary that was numerically and, in many ways, technologically superior. But the Soviets were also disastrously led and unprepared for modern war.

As operational puzzles, Operation Barbarossa and the ensuing battles are irresistible. It’s no surprise, then, that I’ve spent the last week consumed with the final expansion to 2x2 Games’ Eastern Front entry-level wargaming masterpiece, Unity of Command: Black Turn. It’s also no surprise that I find myself reliving the autumn of 1941 again and again, trying to find the solutions that eluded Hitler’s generals and which continue to elude me. This is an expansion that demands near-perfection even as it attains it.

Publishers and indies alike speak out in support of wronged YouTubers

Comments3

The legally iffy treasure trove of lost hip hop, silent movies and ‘90s British comedy on YouTube is testament to a long term unspoken policy: if nobody makes a copyright claim, it can stay.

That began to change last week when YouTube tightened restrictions on monetised videos, such that Let’s Players and the like tied to multi-channel networks like Machinima have found huge swathes of their work locked in a days-long copyright approval process.

The thing is, the game developers whose copyrighted footage has caused the problem are, on the whole, quite happy to see it used. In the last day or so of upheaval, studios both large and tiddly have looked up from their keyboards to express their support for YouTubers.

PS4 & Xbox One Emulators May Arrive Sooner Than Expected

Ah, the beautiful – yet awkward – world of emulation. Thanks to them a lot of players can enjoy classic 16bit titles. Thanks to them, all PSX titles have been enhanced with better visuals and framerates. Thanks to them, more people were able to enjoy a variety of games that were not available on their platform. And thanks to them PC gamers may get their hands on PS4 and Xbox One games in the near future. Continue reading

Would be interesting if they could get it to work in the next few years lol, I have my doubts tho. And before anyone asks emulators by themselves are perfectly legal, piracy however is not. That wouldn't provent people from playing games legaly on an emulator as it would theoreticaly be possible to run legit discs or downloads via an emulator.
