My dad didn't even understand Wii sports.
I think it has a lot to do with design and the person using it. He might have thought it "looked" too complicated and therefore decided that it was too complicated, maybe even before he tried it. It's just the way we humans work sometimes. Of cource, it might have been something else as well.
