They do have a holiday boost which is starting to show a little with these numbers and it will increase through to the last week of the year.  Granted, you are correct that it is not as large of a holiday sales period as it is in the US and Europe.  But there is definitely more to the Wii U numbers than just holdiay boost as they are much more significant in proportion to all other consoles.

Golden Week is in the end of April and first week of May.  Obon is another big holdiay in Japan which runs during mid August (other periods too but less gift giving during the others).

Ah k, thanks for the correction. :) Is there some kind of Japanese holiday in January though? Cause I seem to remember some noticeable boosts in January (for Japan only, obviously...sales tank in the US and Europe in January :p) in previous years. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong though.

Coming of Age is a pretty big January holiday that sees some sales boosts.

Okay, that must be it then, thanks! And yeah, my main point was just that Wii U's sales increases over the past 3 weeks have been too significant to be attributed just to the "holidays"...like you mentioned as well.
