You're being too harsh on SM3DW. It looks like an outstanding game, I think I might like it even more than Galaxy - which I loved. Its biggest flaw is its name. If it was called Super Mario Universe and had a better intro trailer at E3 I think it would have more hype and sales...but I think it could still sell very well in the long run and it's not like it's doing awful.
You're also putting way too much value in Metroid - the series just isn't that popular as much as some of us love it.
A bold, mature Zelda would get some needed core attention, however.
