First off i said 'Pretty much flopped' The install base for the Wii is 4x times bigger the GC. All major Nintendo franchises saw a big increase in sales because of this. DK could even make a big comeback. All major IP's, but Metroid Prime 3. That game had the best Metroid controls ever, and also the first one a new console. Even the back tracking was a bit adjusted to suit a bigger audience. And yet it barely sold over the last installment on a platform 4x smaller. That failure of an proper increase was recognized by Nintendo. Hence they went with the partial reboot of Other M. They wanted to capitalize on their biggest install base ever by making it a more accessible 2.5D. That failed ever more. Other M 1.24 million come mostly from the bargain bin, when the Wii was winning the generation. And add to that the increase of development - the first big use of CG didn't come cheap. Production cost for Other M could have been the highest here. That's why i would pretty much say those two installments flopped. They could have achieved much more but failed to so. Which is also why Metriod is in Nintendo's fridge. In fact at this point DK has taken it's place as one of the big three. |
I'm pretty sure your concept of "flop" isn't the same as mine or what most people think of a flop then. Also your claim "all major series except Metroid" is false, Skyward Sword sold less than Windwaker, for example. 80% (991,923 copies) of Other M sold in its first year. As for DK, it's always been big.
