What username said. The PS3 is the superior Blu Ray player on the market, but honestly, the HD format war was overrated to start off with. I am purple - Blu and HD DVD - and it is a lot sharper but that's it. And honestly, I won't be snagging more Blus until I see movies that I really, really want.
To me, I have my LCD hooked up to my DiSH DVR and I absolutely love watching Star Wars and other movies in HD. However, based on the price of admission, you had better really like movies to buy a Blu Ray player right now. I do think you won't see mass adoption until prices hit under $200 and movies a wii bit more than $15 a pop.
I will date myself with this - but I remember my uncle paying over $200 for a cassette WalkMan. I was like 'That is soooo cool.' I wonder if he still has it ...
And I won't even talk about my dad spending $1,500 on a 150mhz AST PC with a 5gb hard drive.
You have to pay to play to be an early adopter. I am not shocked you were underwhelmed - welcome to the club - and I am talking about HD DVD and Blu Ray.
