Not Sony:

Why?

At one time I used to buy everything Sony... Alarm clocks, discmans, playstation 1 and 2, TVs, receivers, cameras, video cameras... EVERYTHING...

But, what I found is that after the one or two or three year warranty would expire that I would often find the device would die shortly after warranty. And I would have to replace it. That didn't put me over the edge but I started to be concerned.

And then one day my 40" backlit TV that I paid $4,000 for (at that time $4000 was insane for a TV that size but I thought I was buying quality) crapped out the day before the warranty expired. That was February 28, 2001 (I bought the device March 1, 1999 with a two year warranty). When I phoned Sony on February 28, 2001 they told me that the device was no longer on warranty because Sony counted 365 x 2 days and since the previous year was a leap year I was out of luck. I talked to supervisors and Sony leaders, and then one Sony exec, listing how many devices I had purchased (In fact I faxed them the receipts) Sony throughout my life and they all had the same answer for me... Too bad... The exec was particularly rude. He told me that I should expect to change my electronics after the warranty expires and that my brand loyalty to Sony was something they valued but they wouldn't help me because it was a high end TV and I should be able to afford a new one.

At the time I was a bit strapped for cash so I ended up not having a TV for several months. When, I got back to being able to afford electronics again I vowed that Sony would no longer get the lion's share of my electronics money... And they don't... In fact, the only thing I buy Sony is playstations. And that is solely because of the exclusive games. I never buy a multi-platform game Sony and I never buy any other Sony electronics. As for the huge TV that died. I put it in t he back of my truck, drove to the Sony store I bought it with two friends, we hoisted the monster out of the truck and placed it right in front of their many door so no one could enter the store with spray paint on it that Sony Sucks. We drove away and let them deal with it...
