A few things though, would everyone start off in the same location in order to progress through the gyms in a similar way to the handheld Pokemon games or will player be given the option to start anywhere? Id vote for anywhere, would also love the ability to use the pokemon outside of battle, i.e using a Lapras to cross the ocean waters in order to hunt for sea pokemon. Also size and scale could prove a big part, i.e making it so that only birds that are big enough to carry you would be able to fly about, Pigeot and Fearow rather than Pidgey etc.
Gym leaders would require considerable thought but i would like them to be tough so that getting a gym badge is a consdierable challenge (the handheld gym leaders are a bit too easy) and would like them to be beatable through a combination of good tactics and good levels.
Only one of each of the legendary pokemon should be in the game too, there shouldnt be matches where both players have a mewtwo for example, and all should be insanely hard to find and even harder to catch.
Also, there should be other things for non numberchasers to do, i.e beauty contests, races, just general things that you would do in a world of pokemon.
