Update - Speaking to SavyGamer, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the manufacturer no longer insists that developers release the Xbox Live versions of their games at the same time as other versions.

"We do not require exclusivity agreements. However, we do ask for day one parity with other console game platforms. In instances where games have signed a timed exclusive with another platform, we'll work with them on a case by case basis."

I am really tired so I may be reading this wrong, but I don't understand those two lines.

Microsoft no longer requires developers release Xbox version the same time as other versions.

Microsoft asks developers to release Xbox version the same time as other versions.

Is the difference because the word "requires" has changed to "asks"?  So they mandated it before; and now they just suggest it?

now it's about stuff like the same resolution at release. so, if a game releases at the same time on ps4 and xbox one, microsoft wants to have no better resolution on ps4. that's probably the reason why we saw the resolution patches for asscreed and cod. so, they don't ask for the same release but if a game releases at the same time (which happens with most multiplat games) it shouldn't be worse on xbox one.

was obvious, that's why sony said "first on playstation" to the e3 indie games. a few will be probably still exclusive.
