The reason why 3D Mario is not as popular as 2D Mario

I would take you word for it that the GC would not have outsold the N64 anyway because I don't feel like checking it out myself. Those reasons are nonsensical though. You assume that there is no overlap between Metroid, Zelda and 3D Mario, but 100% overlap between 2D Mario and each of the three aforementioned individual games. Nevermind that NSMB Wii outsold Metroid, Zelda and 3D Mario combined on the Wii. Or that NSMB did the same on the DS. Why the denial that 2D Mario is a system seller?

I never assumed there is no overlap "But the tricky part is that a Zelda fan may not buy a console for Metriod, and a Metriod fan may not buy a console for 3d mario and vice versa because each is complex and different in thier own way." I just simplified it so  I would not have to give actual metrics.

About it outselling Metroid Zelda and 3d mario combined how many if any (cause I honestly cannot remember) of these three games were bundled?(Although I don't think they were bundled but I am not sure). Also what was the NSMBwii sales before the bundles?

It did outstanding numbers on ds because it is exactly the type of game you would want on a handheld (simple and can be played in short periods).
