The success/failure of Wii U (home consoles) is more based on 3rd party support for the AAA multi-plat titles than the exclusive games.
EA and Take-Two control all the "sports" titles, and neither of them are on Wii U. I think based on this years sales for CoD, Skylanders, etc Activision might be out next year. Same for Ubisoft and others.
The Wii U will be a very niche system if it becomes an "only" Nintendo published titles console. Nintendo may need to start paying for the 3rd party ports of the key 3rd party games or pay even more later on to get them back in.
