Nintendo cannot save the Wii U no matter what they do. It's fate; along with all the games for it was sealed well before its release... Nintendo has screwed up in the following ways:

1) Wii was marketed to casual gamers, so when Wii U was released core gamers seen it as the same thing
2) The Wii U touch screen is not being seen as a compelling reason to buy the console
3) The Wii U is only moderately more powerful than the X360 and PS3
4) Wii U does not playback Blu-ray movies
5) Nintendo marketing has disappeared of the planet. Not attending E3 and other major events.
6) Nintendo has not embraced online gaming like MS and Sony. Their service offering is inferior

Then, after release they have the following issues:

1) They re-released a bunch of X360 and PS3 games as new titles on Wii U which made gamers wonder why they needed that console
2) They continue to be absent in meaningful marketing to the core gamer
3) Nintendo leadership refuses to admit they are going in the wrong direction

To me, there are one of two announcements that Nintendo will make at VGX. Either they announce they are going multi-platform and making accessories to simulate the Wii U on X1 and PS4 (In this case they will re-release all Wii U exclusives on X1/PS4). Or they announce that they are merging with MS or Sony (Most likely MS since Nintendo hates Sony).
