Software-wise? Sure, in a broad sense Wii U is like N64 in that N64 had little 3rd party to speak of. However, Nintendo's software output on the N64 was some of the most inspired and iconic in video game history. With Nintendo stuck firmly in their traditional ways lately, I don't see much of that kind of software coming to the Wii U any time soon.

Good ideas are coming, like ZombiU extensive use of the gamepad, Wonderful 101 intense gameplay and Murphy´s supporting role on Rayman Legends.

The problem is that videogames audiences today are not so open minded to new ideas as they were on the 16 and 32-bit era. It´s all about blood, gore, shooting and cinematic M content. Consumers today just want more of the same.  Less thinking, more shooting.
