Its painfully obvious Wii U has not been selling well since December 2012 and its pretty obvious that Wii U is not rebounding in any meaningful manner this holiday season. So many have asked, why is Iwata-san sticking to the 9m 2013-14 fiscal year shipment figures when Wii U hasn't even sold 1m worldwide in 7.75 months (April to now)? How the hell do they expect to sell another 8m+ in the next 4 months?
Well ladies, gentlemen and rol, I have the only possible answer(s).
Its quite simply really and I'm surprised its been ignored so blatantly by mainstream anti-semitic-racists-pedophiles who continuously bash Nintendo.
Reggie recently said, "software sells hardware". We all know this to be true, except maybe Pezus, but he's short a few sprinklers in his garden.
This holiday we've seen some really good Wii U bundles at the new $299 price point, from Mario and Luigi to Zelda; the best of the best has been given away for free. We've also seen possibly the least anticipated Mario game ever be continuously branded as the best ever by media and players alike.
Those items all point to only one of two outcomes possible.
1) In January Nintendo will come out of their Investor's meeting with the grim news of massively lowering their Wii U shipment forecasts to a level that is more benefiting of their current sales trend. While a few Analysts have come out and put that number around the 6m mark, I'd actually say it should be closer to 4 million shipped by March 31st.
This outcome literally means Nintendo recognizes Wii U is a failure and will be surpassed by PS4 AND Xbone before the end of 2014 worldwide. This also means that Q1 2014 will have no major games released from Nintendo beyond Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and a possibly some minor non-system seller like Bayonetta 2, etc.
2) The only other option is that Nintendo has plans to significantly increase sales in the immediate future. The only way this is possible is that they are putting out software to force demand for their hardware. Now I firmly believe Super Mario 3D World could be that title now that word is getting around that it is an amazing game to own. However, that will only draw in the more core Nintendo crowd as well as a small % of others.
Nintendo needs titles to drive core gamers as well as casual gamers. Nintendo needs to release Super Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8, respectively.
They need to do this with a vengeance.
They need to push Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze to Q2 or summer.
January needs:
- New Wii U bundle with Super Mario 3D World $299 beginning first week of January (phase out Zelda bundle and 2D Mario bundle)
- Release Mario Kart 8 - HEAVILY ADVERTISED
February needs:
- New Mario Kart 8 bundle $299 (keep Mario 3D World bundle)
- Release Super Smash Bros 4 - HEAVILY ADVERTISED
March needs:
- Phase out Mario 3D bundle
- New Wii U Bundle with Watch_Dogs AND Pro Controller $299 (this may need to be in February if that's when game launches, point is to do this with launch of big 3rd NEW party game)
- Release Bayonetta 2 or DKC TF or Yoshi Yarn
Option would give Wii U the only chance it actually has at reaching 9m by the end of March without some profit killing / value destroying price cuts. However, even here I'd think Nintendo would drop projects to at least 7m.
EDIT: After that VGX blow away reveal... its pretty obvious my option #1 will be the correct one.
EDIT2: I was right all along it seems. #1 is what happened.
