Yep, YS is really nice and it should be a big Vita title.

Not really no. It's a good game for people who're into ps2 anime games that are not regarding to finitions.

For other people, it's just a meh, over flawed anime games with little to no interest.

Everyone was speaking about it on the vita thread. So I decided to pick one at my friend house, played it, and it's just MEH. The kind of meh that give you the urge to slap hard people that kept talking about it on every fucking page for 2 or 3 month. You have to forgive a lot of things in order to enjoy the game. The graphics are from another time. The story fail to maintain the logic up. There's little to no narration talent, the gameplay has nothing special and is not funny. And I won't mention the muddled artistic direction, it's just the kind of things any average japanese studio produce nowaday. There's to much effects on screen, the camera is way to far away from the character, they're dressed like an old episode of elemental gerad (And that will never be a compliment in this word), the anime scene are crap...

No really, I'm kind of glad people won't link Ys and Ps Vita together. I know taste are relative. But relativity is also relative. And I think it's not just my opinion but what I said is just the case in fact.

I completely disagree with your impressions of Ys :(

-This is my first time playing this series and I love the gameplay dearly. I've put 20hrs into it since release, actually chose to pick it up over Tearaway.

-Lots of great eploring to do in this game. The story is light hearted like any of your average Pokemon or something. I think thats fine. Hes just an adventure seeking adventure and discovering new lands(and lost his memories). Won't be winning any awards on story but it seems totally competent to give motive enough to progress.

-The Combat is my FAVORITE thing about it. At first I was like "meh", isometric view-ish with press button to attack. Early enemies were super easy so I was unimpressed. Then they introduced FLASH MOVE and FLASH GUARD, which infinitely uped the skill required to fight. About 6-7hrs in the enemy variety amped up and I was skillfully blocking and parrying enemy attacks to take advantage of criticals and time freezes. The Skills are also very nice, and add a cinematic flare to the combat if used properly, as do the EXTRA techniques. The battles get more and more spicy as thegame goes on. I just fought a boss underwater.

-I do wish their was more motivation as far as leveling and progression. No broad skill trees to see, just old school level up till u unlock a new skill. I later realized that that would have been highly unnecessary. THe game is very action oriented and the basic moves never lose their  usefulness. Depending on what you are fighting at the time, the dynamics of combat completely change.

-UI is definitely cluttered, I'll give u that. Wish less words were flashing across the screen at any one time. Its all pretty useful info tho. I find some of the sleek interactions with UI refreshing. THe fact that you can save ANYWHERE feels so good for a portable game. I can zoom the camera in and out with pinching of touch screen, and can direct my party members with a swift swip of back pad. All the menu buttons are touch and hard button applicable. AND I can map the controls just to my liking, which I did so they were a bit more intuitive for me. So rare that games give you that option for some reason.

-Graphics, nothing to write home about for sure. Neither was most things on DS/3DS. I love sharp graphics done on Vita, but the idea that a game HAS to be Uncharted just because its on Vita bothers me, and I try not to feed into it. Ys looks good, not great, just good. No distinct jaggies muddling up the image, thats for sure.

Overall, I think Ys is the type of game that more portable players can get with. Its not overburdened with being a Cinematic Masterpiece or attempting to be a console game on handheld. It knows its a portable action RPG and it takes that and runs with it.

But you know.....opinons and all that jazz.
