They actually do hold stock, as their strategic placing of released units is determined prior to launch. They need an even flow of consoles to come out each week during the holidays, and they get this from "overstock" at their warehouse from pre-NA launch units manufactured in October most likely. They need to do these types of things because they only product 1 million (emtimate) PS4's per month, giving only 250K world-wide each week. Split between regions NA would get like 100K only per week, and this is where the backlog comes in to boost it to maybe 150K. Their backlog isn't huge, don't get it twisted. Just to hold a boost till after to Holidays (end mid-January).
