I have mixed opinion on this. I think all videogames should challenge the player no matter the game. It is how we build skill /experience that gives us the edge in future titles. Getting good shouldn't be given to you and it is bad enough our current industry is preaching the wrong values on what is important in a videogame. I just finished Sonic Lost World and Lava Moutain 3 is complete bullshit and took me like 3 game overs to beat it. Now I have played the level enough times I can play through it and maybe die just once. It was frustrating but it was worth it.
Then I think about a scenario where what if no matter how much a person tried they just couldn't beat it. Having the game end for them there would be pretty dickish the developer. Some extra help shouldn't be looked upon. What about all those people who play Batman or Uncharted. They do nothing but hold your hand in those kind of games: Go here buttons, shiny items, prompts to counter, auto jumping. Should we look down on those people who play those games?
