He needs setup the Standby mode.

If not it will just turn off.

So the PS4 UI is a convoluted mess just like the PS3? It literally took me 10 minutes to figure out how to sync a bluetooth headset to PS3 when I bought one.  Stanby mode should be automatically selected.
