As you can see, we have 24 characters confirmed. Now, that means 8 light, 8 heavy and 8 medium.
We have 5 light, 5 medium, and 4 light OR medium. 3 of the unkown has to go to one, and 2 to the other. That means we get 7 and 7, or 6 and 7, if Miis are not counted towards the 24. That leaves 2 medium and 1 light, or 3 light, or 3 medium, or 1 medium and 2 light.
The point is, is it possible that Toadette is one of the 2 next most important characters?

And Toadette. I'd say that if Toadsworth is in, like NP said, Toadette is out.
Now, for the Heavy, we only have 4, so there are 4 free spots. Nintendo Power said Wario's Girlfriend and Waluigi's girlfriend
If those are true, we have 2 more spots. R.O.B could take one, I see this likely.
Nintendo Power hinted that we would see a return of a character, that was part of a spin-off series. King Boo fits this very well, he could be the new Heavy. Petey Piranha (god forbid!) is also a possible choice.
