The problem more often than not is that people tend to attribute any internet-associated feature towards the online infrastructure the system is associated with. PSN's inital lack of UI support, trophies, party chat between other features were more to do with the PS3's RAM distribution more than anything (people tend to forget the original PS3 back in 2005 had a drastically different architecture setup, the Cell was going to handle most of the legwork originally, it didn't even have a dedicated GPU)
Hell, just look at the Wii, which arguably ended up with the most serviceable internet browser last gen, if we really wanna be thrown for a loop.
