Perhaps a flexible isometric camera angle that can change viewing direction to 4 locked places. Gives you limited camera control for puzzling and exploration but it won't get in the way. Add lock-on targetting to that, expand on the new energy meter for all items (perhaps some enemies only get hurt using 2-3 items in quick succession, requiring a full energy bar). The right stick could now be used for Link's new mechanic instead of handling the camera, preferably something more active along the lines of turning into a painting rather than making music, something that can be an integral part of combat, exploration and puzzling, Zelda's 3 main features. |
No, no isometric views. Those make sense for Mario, but they don't really for 3D Zelda.
I would say, speed up link a good bit. Make him control like 2D link. Completely revamp combat, it's been needed for a while (skyward sword is not what I mean).
Then make the world a lot bigger and more open, really make it play like 2D zelda.
Overall, just make it FEEL 2D.
