We already give them our payment info. So a level of trust is already there. why would we post sensitive information in this forum in the public eye? You cannot compare the two, find another reference. |
Well, it they do it right they will not be able to see your passwords, even if they wanted to (without a key logger or some other means of gaining your private information) if the database is set up properly. One sets the password fields so they can't be view or downloaded - like how they look in little **** when you type them. So, that even if you hack into the data, like names and birthdates, you can not get the passwords from the system.
But if someone company forgets to bother to define the passwords field’s as passwords, then that information would be nice and clear. As many people reuse their password, it could give unscrupulous people a big gift of information. It’s a basic level database design as basic as putting your name on a paper, report or book if you want to be recognized. And some company with a huge leak forgot to do that.
It’s such a basic level of database design there is no excuse. It was just a big mistake. So they issued a big apology and offer to help monitor for fraud.
TL/DR: Micosoft probably stores the data so even if they were hacked; the hackers shouldn't have accessed to the password data.
