A couple things about the XB1: it was not designed to be stood on its side like the XB360. Doing so could potentially damage the drive. Second, and there should be a label on the console stating this, but the console should not be moved when a disc is spinning in the drive.

If someone does either of the two, it's not "defective" it's user negligence if a disc gets eaten or the optical drive goes out of alignment.

You are thinking about the 360. There is no reason for the console to not be moved while it is spinning. PS3 have been able to do that without sending the drive out of alignment since day one. The 360 is the only console I have ever heard of with that issue. Should not carry over to the One as it uses similar technology to the PS3/PS4.

I'm pretty sure that's because the PS3's Blu-ray drive has significantly less revolutions per minute, however. (Or that the 360's disc drive was kneejerk overclocked to run at 16x to atone for the premature launch and lack of stress testing depending on how you wanna look at it) My logic could be wrong, but just sayin'.
